How to Build a Shadow Box for Dancing

A shadow box, or display box, for a dancer is an ideal way to showcase old trophies, awards, programs and even dance shoes. A shadow box can highlight a single year of dancing for a very active dancer, or even a lifetime of dance. Choose items you will not need access to, for example, don't include dance shoes you currently still use. Choose baby dance shoes or shoes that have become worn out or out grown.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut down a piece of silk or satin fabric to line the inside of the box. Glue the fabric down so the entire inside of the box is covered with fabric.

    • 2

Wrap pink and/or white ribbon, like the kind used to lace up ballet shoes, around the outside of the box creating a crisscross design. Glue the ribbon in place.

    • 3

Place the desired items inside the box. This could include dance photographs, photos from performances, competition programs and old dance shoes and/or leotards. This could also include trophies, medals and awards from dancing.

    • 4

Use glue or double sided tape to adhere the objects and keep the articles in the box in place.

    • 5

Place the glass lid on top of the box. Add touches of glitter to the outside of the box and lid if desired.
