Summer Dance Camps in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan, a Canadian prairie province, is home to many summer camp opportunities. In Saskatchewan and its surrounding areas, you will find dance camp programs available to all ages of children during the summer months. These range from university-sponsored introductions to dance, to more intensive training sessions for those with at least an intermediate level of dance training.
  1. University School of Dance

    • The University School of Dance is organized by the University of Saskatchewan. Children of all ages are welcomed each summer to the school, which features six dance-related camps. Children 4 to 6 years old will enjoy the movement and exploration opportunities presented to them during the five-day day camp, which runs during mid- to late July. Spirit Flyers is home to dancers with cognitive disabilities, ages 7 to 14. Here they will learn ballet, jazz, musical theater and even cultural dance. Children 7 to 14 years old with at least four years of dance experience can receive intensive instruction at their own camp, while those ages 15 and up who are serious about either ballet or jazz can join up with a specialized intensive in August. All camps run for one week during the daytime hours, and the summer 2011 season ranges in price from $110 to $300 per camp. Visit the official website of University School of Dance for further specifics and information.

    def SOL Productions

    • Primarily a hip-hop dance studio, def SOL offers summer dance camp opportunities in Saskatchewan. Instead of a typical summer destination camp, def SOL comes to your local dance studio, church or community center and designs a summer dance camp for children or teens based upon your requests. Their camp can also include a combination of instruction and a professional performance for end-of-week entertainment. These summer camps start at a base rate of $75 per hour, and then continue on to $50 per hour for same day. You can visit their official website (see Resources) for further information, pricing and contact info.

    Dance Dynamics

    • Located in Saskatoon, Dance Dynamics offers a ballroom dance camp in July, spanning over a weekend. Both children and adults may participate. A typical Friday night will focus on smooth dances, including history and technique of each dance. You can learn the foxtrot, waltz and tango during this evening session. Saturday is all about the rhythm dances--rumba, swing and the cha-cha. Summer dance camp information is not yet available for 2011. However, you can check for updates via their official website. Pricing averages $125, depending upon the schedule of activities.

    Pure Energy Dance Co.

    • Established in the Saskatchewan region for over 35 years, Pure Energy Dance Co. offers a summer dance camp for ages 6 and up. Their Little Miss Princess camp for ages 6 to 9 runs August 15-18 and does not require any dance experience. Camp runs 5 p.m. 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Summer Dance Intensive for ages 11 and up will run from July 25 to 28 and requires previous training in various dance disciplines. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday of that week. Little Miss Princess costs $80, while the Summer Intensive costs $135. See the Resources section for an official registration form.
