How to Do a Monkey Flip

Break-dancing is a form of dance most commonly associated with hip-hop and is also known as B-boying. In break-dancing, performers work alone or in teams performing moves that often require a great deal of acrobatic skill, in addition to musical rhythm. The monkey flip is a beginner's flipping maneuver in which an individual places a hand down behind him and then kicks his body up and over the hand, performing a move similar to a back handspring.

Instructions

    • 1

Crouch down so your buttocks nearly touch the ground, with your weight on the balls of your feet.

    • 2

Place one hand on the ground behind you, with your arm as straight back as possible and your hand turned so the fingers are pointing behind you.

    • 3

Kick off the ground with both feet to propel your body up and off the ground.

    • 4

Reach back over your head with the hand that is not planted on the ground.

    • 5

Tilt your head back to look at the area you are flipping into.

    • 6

Turn your planted hand as your legs move over the top, and plant your other hand down as well.

    • 7

Land with both feet, using your momentum to raise your lower body and right yourself.
