Top Dance Ballet Colleges

Theatrical, graceful and elegant, a ballet dancer tells a story through every movement. But while natural talent will get you a long way, ballet must be learned and it is a long process. Colleges such as Julliard and the Paris Opera Ballet School may be household names to aspiring dancers, and there are other top dance ballet colleges all around the globe
  1. United States

    • Julliard was founded in 1905 as the Institute of Musical Art, but in 1951 a dance division was added. The ballet course at this renowned performing arts college is a four-year course ending with a bachelor of fine arts.

    Russia

    • The Moscow State Academy of Choreography, also known as the Bolshoi Ballet Academy is among the oldest and most prestigious ballet colleges in the world. It is also where most of the Bolshoi Ballet's dancers are educated.

    Rest of Europe

    • Paris Opera Ballet School is nearly 300 years old as it was founded in 1713. The school teaches students in six levels from a sixth division to a first division.

      Ballet dancer and choreographer John Cranko set up the John Cranko School in Germany to train classical dancers. The Stuttgart Ballet has been affiliated with this prestigious ballet college since 1999.

    Rest of World

    • The Conservatoire of Ballet in Australia offers a two-year program for students that delivers a nationally accredited full-time diploma. Graduates have entered the Prague National Theatre Ballet, Kiev Ballet Company and the Ballet Landestheater-Salzburg to name a few.

      The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in Canada was founded in 1939. Facilities include 10 sprung-floor studios and a 150-seat performance space.

      Other top dance colleges include the Lucia Millas Ballet School in Brazil, the Shanghai Dance School in China and the Yamaji Ballet School in Japan
