Instructions

    • 1

Study ballet from an early age, enrolling in ballet classes as young as possible. Ballet is a complicated style of dance, and it takes a dancer many years to become proficient in ballet positions and important skills like good rotation for turnout. In addition, continue taking ballet classes throughout your childhood and young adult life; do not stop and then restart classes. This can interfere with your ability to build upon those skills you have already learned, including building muscle and proper technique.

    • 2

Practice ballet technique as often as you can. Master as much technique as possible that is appropriate for your age. In addition, having a good mental attitude and ability to master new choreography quickly are both important skills that the top ballet schools look for in potential students.

    • 3

Attend an audition for a top ballet school. The top ballet schools admit students by holding yearly or sometimes biyearly auditions. Traditionally, the top ballet schools hold auditions in the summer. Auditions are open to students of all ages, and ballet schools select students based upon their skill for their age and their potential for improvement. Students must pay a fee to audition and bring a copy of their birth certificate to verify their age.
