Essays with the APA format are double spaced and have 1-inch margins all the way around. While the font preference is 12-point Times New Roman, some teachers allow students to use a similar font. If you do want to use a different font, check with your instructor first. Also, be sure to add a running header to your paper that includes two or three words of your title for identification, followed by the page number.
An APA style paper always has four main sections that include your title page, an abstract that encapsulates your paper, the main body of the paper, and the references you used to write your paper. These sections are formatted individually, so keeping a guide handy while you write is the best way to keep it correct. You can purchase a book on the APA style, or better yet, use a reputable online guide (see "Resources" below).
One of the most difficult tasks when putting together an APA style paper is citing your resources. There are individual citing rules depending upon whether your citing from a book, magazine, or an Internet source. Again, always keep a guide handy that gives you written examples. This is the best way to ensure you get it right.
