How to Format Time in APA Format
The APA format, created by the American Psychological Association, gives guidelines for writing essays and papers. With this format, all written work follows the same style and reference guidelines. When adding a reference section to one of your articles, it is important to add the date your reference was created using the APA format. While most references need only the date, others benefit from the exact time the piece was created. This is particularly important when citing blog posts and newsgroup articles.

1
Add "GMT" at the beginning of your listed time. This denotes Greenwich Mean Time and indicates the time format you'll be using in your reference.
-
2
Cite the time that the reference was posted using the 24 hour clock system. For example, 8:30 PM would read as "20:30:00"; the last two numbers denote the seconds in which the reference was posted. If you do not know the exact seconds, use two zeros. Your time citation now reads: "GMT 20:30:00".

Enter the time immediately after the date of your reference.
