How to Improve Amazon Picks

Amazon's shopping site has a feature to it that is much like the shopping equivalent of TIVO. Amazon pays attention to your shopping habits, and then searches the site for other items that they think you might be interested in purchasing. As an incentive, they give you 5 percent off the purchase price of any item you buy off of your personalized picks list.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your account at Amazon and then click on "Today's Deals" at the top of the page.
Scroll down to see your list of "Quick Picks." If you are disappointed with what they are finding for you, do a little tweaking to improve the list. Usually the results show within 24 to 48 hours of making changes.

    • 2

Select "Improve Your Recommendations" under your "Personal Store" tab. Here you find a list of all items that you purchased from Amazon. Uncheck the box that says "Use to Make Recommendations" next to any item that your purchased as a gift or that you are no longer interested in buying items that are similar to it.

    • 3

Browse the shopping site to find items that you are interested in, or items related to the ones that you wish Amazon was offering you the 5 percent discount on. Add these items to your "Wish List", whether you have plans of buying them in the near future or not.

    • 4

Think about items that you already own that you would like to purchase similar items to. Look for these items on the Amazon website and then rate the items and fill out the user review.

    • 5

Return to the Amazon website and check your "Quick Picks" in a day or two to see if the "Quick Picks" list has improved as a result of your efforts. If it hasn't, do some more reviews and add more items to your "Wish List."
