Choose your topic. You can choose a hot topic or a niche. If you plan to sell your eBook, you have a better chance of success if you choose a niche. A niche is a specialized area targeting a small group with special needs, interests or requirements.
Determine your eBook's structure. Are you using links? Do you want a table of contents and control over the design elements? Consider everything you plan to do within the book.
Decide between a compiling program and a pdf creator. A compiler turns your book into an executable (exe) file. These files are considered dangerous because they can be hacked and a virus attached. Expensive pdf creation programs are unnecessary to create an eBook.
Open your word processing program. If you need one, you can download a free one such as Open Office.
Create an outline of your book. An outline helps you organize your thoughts.
Design your layout. Select a font style and size and choose your images. It's usually best to limit the number of images to maintain a smaller file size.
Write your eBook's content. If you include a website address, you must write it as the full URL without a text link for it to work with many pdf programs. For example, write: http://www.blahblah.com. If you use this format, it will take the reader to the desired website.
Save your book once it is completed.
Download and install Primo pdf. It is free but you may have to download an additional piece of software to "pay" for it. You can delete the extra software later. Primopdf acts like a printer driver.
Press "Print" with your document open. Select Primo as the printer and print your book. The Primo Pdf screen will open.
Choose your format. "Print" works fine for any application. In "Document Properties," you can enter a searchable title, author, subject and keywords. In "Pdf Security," you can set a password if you wish, as well as the other security restrictions.
Select "Save As" to name your eBook and choose the location in which to save it.
Pull down the "Post Process" menu to tell the program what to do once the pdf is completed.
Click the "Create Pdf" button. Once the conversion is completed, your eBook is ready for promotion.
