Cut paper sheets to size for the pages. Use a sharp knife or guillotine for clean trim. This is the book block.
Tap a short and a long side alternately on the table to get them very square. The long side will be the spine of the book
Place the book block into a vise, or hold by G clamps, using cardboard to protect the paper. Tighten so half the book, with the spine uppermost, is extending above the vice.
Push the spine to the left so the edges of the sheets fan out. Spread glue along splayed spine. Return the pages to the center and push to the right and again apply glue. Allow the book block to return to the center. Squeeze along the length of the spine on both sides to force out excess glue and remove with a finger.
Wait for three to four minutes, then place between greaseproof paper under a heavy weight to dry.
Place the glued and dried book block over the edge of a table. Measure and cut the card for the cover by holding it against the back and pulling down firmly over the spine.
Take the card and score heavily along the crease that was made.
Put hot glue on the spine and repeat Step 1. Maintain hold this time to allow glue to set.
Place book on its back and pull the cover over to make the front and again score heavily.
