Roll out 2 to 3 inches of cloth book tape. Place a plastic binder on one sticky end of the tape, lining up the edge of the binder with the edge of the tape. You will use the plastic binder as a handle to pull the tape.
Place the tape, sticky side up, on the book cover and roll out the tape, several inches longer than the spine of the book from top to bottom using the binder as a handle.
Allow the plastic folder to hang over the top edge of the book. Place another plastic folder on the tape where it crosses over the bottom edge of the book.
Cut the tape along the outside edge of the bottom plastic binder using a pair of scissors to trim the tape from the roll.
Cut a strip of construction paper as long and wide as the book's spine.
Stick the construction paper to the center of the sticky side of the cotton book tape.
Pick up the tape, using the plastic binders as handles, and stick the tape onto the front cover of the book so that the construction paper is lined up with the edge of the spine.
Flip the book over, so the back cover is facing up, and gently peel the plastic binders off the tape. Fold the tape over the spine and stick it to the back cover, folding the tape firmly, to avoid wrinkles.
Flip the book onto its spine and open the back and front cover, laying them flat on a smooth surface while keeping the pages upright, it will look like a "T" lying on its cross bar.
Make two small incisions in the tape sticking above the spine on the outside edges of the spine, creating three flaps, from the top of the tape to the spine. Repeat this step on the bottom edge of the spine.
Cut the corners off all outer flaps to create triangular flaps. Fold the corners of both center flaps over to give them a pointed edge.
Fold all of the outer flaps over the back and front covers. Flip the book onto its back cover and open it half way. Use a plastic binder to push the center flaps down the back of the spine or cut them off if that is not possible.
