To make a plexiglass print, you will need plexiglass, a hard press, a burin, ink, paper and felt blankets. You can find these items at an art supply store. Obtain a sheet of plexiglass no thicker than one centimeter. Cut out a large piece of plexiglass for a large print or a small piece for a small print.
With a sharp carving tool, such as a burin, carve the design that you want to print onto the plexiglass. Pretend that the burin is a pencil and that the plexiglass is paper, and use the burin to draw and engrave your design onto the plexiglass. Rub ink into the engraved lines of the plexiglass. Since you only want the ink inside of the lines and nowhere else, gently wipe off excess ink from the surface. Place the inked plexiglass side on top of the paper on which you wish to print. Place a felt printing blanket over the paper and run it through the hard press. The hard press pushes the ink inside of the lines onto the surface of the paper, which creates the print.
You also can use ink to make print of objects, such as leaves. Use an artist's roller brush to apply ink to the leaf and place it over paper. You can find an artist's roller brush at an art supply store. The roller brush will help remove any excess ink, thereby giving you a better-looking print. If you want to print with the same leaf but in a different color, turn it over and print from the other side. But do not apply more than one color on one side. Wash and dry the roller brush after each print, so that the previous color will not stain the current color. Feel free to use as many colors of ink as you like and print with a variety of leaves. In addition to leaves, you can also use feathers, coins and hands.
Besides printmaking, you also can draw with ink. You will need a bottle of drawing ink and nibbed pens. Nibbed pens come in a variety of sizes: There are pens that create big lines and those that create small lines. Buy as many different sizes as possible. Dip the nibbed pen into the ink bottle and draw your design. Re-ink the pen as many times as necessary.
