Art Festivals in Michigan

Michigan is home to hundreds of art festivals and fairs each year. Quiet resort towns, urban streets and picturesque college campuses all provide ideal locations for art festivals. The following are some of the largest and most popular art festivals in Michigan.
  1. Ann Arbor Street Art Fair

    • The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair was established in 1960 and is the original of the four Ann Arbor art fairs. It is one of the oldest art fairs in the country. In addition to exhibitors, the fair features artist demonstrations, free art activities for children and live musical performances. The fair also includes the New Art New Artists Program, which showcases juried student artists from colleges and universities. The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair is held on the University of Michigan campus and on streets surrounding the Burton Carillon Tower.

    East Lansing Art Festival

    • The East Lansing Art Festival is held each year on the weekend preceding Memorial Day weekend. The festival is juried and features more than 230 exhibitors, including 8 emerging artists affiliated with Michigan colleges, universities and art schools. The artists' exhibits include glass, painting, photography, sculpture, blown glass, wood and metal. In addition to art exhibitors, the festival includes live music, educational art activities and an international food court. The East Lansing Art Festival is located across the street from the Michigan State University campus.

    National Cherry Festival Arts & Crafts Fair

    • The National Cherry Festival Arts & Crafts Fair begins on the first Saturday in July, in Traverse City, Michigan, near West Grand Traverse Bay. The fair is juried and invitational, featuring more than 100 artists and exhibitors from throughout the Midwest. The fair is part of the 8-day National Cherry Festival, which is attended by more than 500,000 visitors each year. In addition to the art fair, the National Cherry Festival includes a number of special activities for kids, families and seniors, as well as food, live entertainment and special celebrity guests.

    Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair

    • Established in 1958, the Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair is the second oldest juried art show in Michigan. The fair is held on the second Saturday in August and welcomes more than 25,000 summer visitors and local residents. More than 1,000 Artists and craftsmen apply to exhibit works including painting, drawing, glass, wood, sculpture and ceramics. Proceeds from the Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair are invested in local children, providing arts scholarships, performances and educational programs.
