Create a map illustrating the dwelling places of wolves throughout the last few hundred years. You'll find that wolves were almost non-existent in the United States by 1974, but have slowly made a comeback as they have been reintroduced in certain areas. Trace a map of North America on a large sheet of paper. Look up maps such as the ones at pbs.org to find the historic and current ranges of wolves. Using three different colored pencils, use hatch marks to draw in the ranges on your traced map. Complete the map with drawings of wolves around the borders, and lists of wolf facts.
Many people are afraid of wolves although, according to pbs.org, there have been no human fatalities and only several injuries related to wolves in the last 100 years. Create a cute and cuddly wolf stuffed animal. Either crochet a wolf or, using furry material, sew a wolf body. Stuff it with new or reused stuffing to bring it to life. Sew glass beads or buttons onto its face for eyes, and give it pointed ears and a soft black nose.
The howling of a wolf is both a powerful symbol and a strong sound. Use it as a sound clip to create an artful soundscape or song. Contrast sounds like those of a wolf's howl and those of the city, or incorporate the wolf's howl into a rhythmic pattern with beats, melodies or other samples. A wolf's cry can be used to symbolize many things in a soundscape or song, such as loneliness, longing, power, emotion, love, anger or excitement. In the midst of city sounds, the howl leaves us feeling the call of the wild, but in the context of a racing drum beat, it may mean excitement or agitation.
Wolf T-shirts have become widely popular since spoof reviews of the shirt "Three Wolf Moon" posted on a major retailer's website sparked the trend. Drawing inspiration from these commercial wolf images, you can create your own wolf designs and silk screen them not only on T-shirts, but on skirts, overalls, sweatshirts, bags and any other textile you like that is big enough, adding a much-needed artistic touch to the wolf-shirt trend.
