Jerome Project Grants provide three grants a year to ceramics artists as part of the Ceramic Artists Project Grant Program. As of 2010, these grants are $6,000 each and are awarded to artists with college experience from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. The grants are meant for ceramic artists based in St. Paul, Minneapolis, or the neighboring suburbs. Exceptions have been made before for artists who lived outside of the area, but they were Minnesota residents.
The Virginia A. Groot Foundation awards three grants annually to artists who specialize in sculpture, including ceramic sculpture. As of 2010, the grants were as much as $35,000, $10,000, or $5,000 to undertake a project. Applicants are not allowed to be students at a college or place of higher education, must be over the age of 21, and cannot use work from school as part of their portfolio for application. This foundation was started in 1988 to encourage the ceramic arts and the scholarships are given so that "a sculpture artist may have the opportunity to devote a substantial period of time to the development of his or her work," according to the foundation website.
A wide variety of grants are made by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. while this organization is known for supporting museum exhibits or institutions that support the arts, it also offers individual artist grants and residencies. The most common grants for ceramic artists are in the form of a paid residency with a modest stipend. This takes care of basic needs so the grant recipient won't have to worry about food, utilities, or rent while concentrating on his work. There is grant specifically for ceramic artists each year, but applications for projects in many areas are accepted.
