Use paper plates to complete this project; one will be used as the head and two plates will be cut into the shape of floppy ears. First, stack the two plates to be used as ears together and cut a "U" shape that runs from one end of the plate to the edge of the ribbing on the second plate. Glue the ears into place in between two other paper plates. Manipulate the plates into different configurations until you are satisfied with the look that you have created. For example, the ears that you create may stick up or point down. Use a cotton ball to create a bunny nose; for whiskers, use yarn, colorful twine or pipe cleaners. For other facial features, use large stick-on wobbly eyes and a marking pen.
This project is designed for children of all ages. They can make the bonnet as simple or as elaborate as they would like it to be. Use an undecorated straw hat or paper plates with a ribbon attached that will be used to tie the hat to the child's head. An assortment of artificial flowers, stickers and ribbons can be attached to the hat. Work with supplies that are pastel in color to create a true Easter color scheme. Use caution and make sure to have an adult supervise the use of the hot glue gun.
Two large paper plates will be needed to make an Easter basket wall decoration. Cut the first plate in half and mount it in front of the other, so that the insides of both plates are facing. Paint the outside of the plates brown with poster paints, or use decoupage to attach brown paper in a basket weave pattern. Use shredded green construction paper or Easter grass to fill in the depression. Use the craft to hide an actual egg in, or glue on plastic eggs and/or jellybeans for decoration.
