How to Display Sport's Memorabillia

Sports memorabilia have special meanings to their owners. Whether an item is representative of a favorite player or a favorite team, the owners want to display it properly. Signed items, though valuable, are a proud piece of memorabilia for owners. A memorabilia collection typically consists of signed or unsigned jerseys, trading cards and sports items such as baseballs, helmets, basketballs or bats. Therefore, displaying items properly depends on the type of memorabilia and the overall space the owner has to work with.

Instructions

  1. Jerseys

    • 1

Fold the jersey so the number, autograph or other desired information is all that shows. You can display a jersey entirely as well; therefore, first decide how you intend to display it.

    • 2

Iron the jersey to remove any wrinkles or creases. Use a low setting so you don't destroy the fabric or any special markings.

    • 3

Open the picture frame and place the jersey inside. Use jersey or shirt clips made for displays to secure the jersey into place.

    • 4

Hang the jersey on the wall as a centerpiece or accent display, depending on what other pieces are in the collection. Create a label using a computer and printer and place it on the bottom right corner of the picture frame to show the name of the piece, the date you acquired it and your name as the owner.

    Trading Cards

    • 5

Display trading cards in specialty cases that display them like pictures, rather than sporting cards. Purchase a trading card case from a supplier or craft store. Make sure that the dimensions of each display slot match that of the trading cards.

    • 6

Place each trading card into the designated slot. Keep cards from the same era or team together in one case and put other eras or teams in another case.

    • 7

Label the cards with the provided labels in the cases or make your own using a printer and adhesive labels.

    Sports Items

    • 8

Display sporting items such as basketballs, footballs and baseballs in protective glass or plastic cases. These cases are specially designed for sporting items and prevent items from coming into contact with dust or light, which can destroy their quality.

    • 9

Measure the sporting item for width, length and height. Order display cases online or purchase them from a hobby supply store. Glass is used for sporting items displayed on high shelves and out of the reach of children. Plastic cases are more suitable if you plan to move the items around often, or for items that are at risk of being dropped.

    • 10

Place sporting items in their cases and display them on shelves, desk areas and bookcases. Create labels showing the item's name, who autographed it and the date you added it to the collection.
