How to Create an Inclined Plane With Craft Sticks

The Inclined plane is unique among simple machines. While other simple machines such as the lever or pulley require at least one moving part, the inclined plane does not. The plane is ideal for creating ramps of all sizes for playing with toys such as mini skateboards, marbles and jacks.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply glue to the sides of each craft stick you want to use.

    • 2

Bind two sets of four craft sticks, such that the four sticks in each set are glued side by side. Use tissue or paper towels to wipe off excess glue, and allow two to three hours for the glue to dry.

    • 3

Position one of the sets of craft sticks underneath the other one such that it forms a ramp, or inclined plane. Move the lower set of sticks under the top ones until the plane is at a suitable angle and doesn't tip over. Use a pen to mark the position where the lower craft stick set formed the angle.

    • 4

Apply glue to the area you marked with the pen.

    • 5

Return the bottom set of craft sticks to the area you glued, placing the other set of craft sticks on top. Press them together to adhere the glue. Allow two to three hours before use.
