How to Create Icicles With a Water Sprinkler

There's nothing quite like the majestic look of sun shining through icicles. Icicles are formed when water drips from tree limbs, houses, cars or other objects. As more droplets of water or melted snow run down the icicle, it becomes larger and longer. You can easily create this icicle effect on a tree or roof with the aid of a sprinkler when the weather conditions are right.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until the weather is at freezing temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Attach a sprinkler to the end of your water hose.

    • 3

Aim the sprinkler toward the object that you wish to form icicles on, such as the eave of a roof or a tree.

    • 4

Turn on the hose, but not too much. Too much water will just run down and freeze on the ground. A slow, steady mist is best for forming icicles.

    • 5

Wait until icicles are formed. This will take several hours, so be patient. Turn off the hose when you are pleased with your icicles.
