How to: Speedball Screen Printing

The Speedball screen printing process is an easy method of screen printing. You apply screen filler to a woven mesh screen to block out areas you do not want printed, essentially creating a personalized stencil. After the screen filler dries, you place a sheet of paper underneath the screen. You then drag squeegee filled with printing ink over the screen, creating a print. You can use the screen repeatedly.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply the Speedball screen filler to the pre-stretched printing screen in your desired design or pattern. Apply the filler only to spaces on the screen you do not want colored with ink.

    • 2

Allow the Speedball screen filler to dry completely. Place a piece of paper, fabric, canvas, or other flat surface beneath the printing screen.

    • 3

Hold the printing screen tightly against the flat item. Load a squeegee with printing ink, place it against the printing screen on the side furthest away from you,and drag the squeegee slowly towards you. Apply even pressure to the squeegee.

    • 4

Lift the printing screen and remove the item you printed on. Place the print in a safe place to dry. Repeat the process to create additional prints.

    • 5

Wash the printing screen and squeegee with warm water immediately after completing your prints.
