SpeedBall Silkscreen Instructions

Silk screening, also called screen printing, is a simple and easy way to create a stencil template for printing. After a screen template is created, it can be used to print T-shirts, signs, and other surfaces with the image it contains. Screen printing is a simple process that can be easily done at home, especially with materials provided in the SpeedBall Silkscreen Kit.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a stencil design out of paper. The design can be whatever you choose; you can use either the cutout or the remaining paper for your silkscreen.

    • 2

Position printing paper under the frame. Place the stencil piece(s) on top of the printing paper in the design you want, then lower the screen.

    • 3

Spoon the printing ink out along the end of the printing screen closest to you. Make sure the screen is slightly raised from the base and use a smooth stroke with the squeegee to evenly distribute the ink over the printing area. This is known as the "flood stroke."

    • 4

Lower the screen onto the printing paper. Use the squeegee to pull the ink from the far side of the screen towards you with a smooth, even stroke. This is the "print stroke." Keep the squeegee at a 45-degree angle and press down firmly enough that the squeegee wipes all the ink across the screen.

    • 5

Lift the screen, make a flood stroke, set the kick leg and remove your new print from beneath. Hang or set the print somewhere safe to dry. At this point, you can choose to insert another piece of paper and repeat the entire process to create another print.
