Purchase a basic metal mask in the shape you desire. Metal masquerade masks offer a lot of room for creativity because they come in several different shapes that you can turn into various masks. For example, a basic butterfly cut can also be turned into a fairy mask or a woodland creature.
Design the pattern you want on your mask on a different surface before jumping in on your metal mask. One of the downsides of using metal is you typically only get one chance to make it right, so it is best to plan the design first, including the colors you will use.
Paint the mask, allowing at least 2 to 4 hours between each coat to make sure the paint will not smear when you apply the second coat of paint. The number of coats will largely depend on the type of metal and paint you use, as well as the look you want.
Add extra accessories such as glitter, rhinestones, feathers and ribbons. Make the attachments out of ribbon to secure the mask to your head. You might need several ribbons or even some rubber bands to keep the mask on your face.
Try on the mask in front of a mirror to make sure it fits well and there are no last-minute adjustments needed.
