Decide on the wording. Ensure that the metal piece you are stamping is large enough to accommodate the word or phrase you choose.
Create a straight-edge guide by taping a piece of masking tape onto the sheet metal below where you want the words or phrase to appear.
Pick out the first letter of the word you wish to spell. Make sure that you are holding it so that the letter is facing the right direction. Place the stamp, letter facing down, on the sheet metal and slide it so that it touches the edge of the masking tape guide.
Do not pivot or shift the stamp as you hold it with one hand and hammer it with a mallet. Hammer more than once to make a clear mark in the metal. As you are hammering, slowly move the end of the stamp from left to right and up and down.
Once the stamp has been adequately hammered, remove the stamp from the metal and view the impression. Pick your next letter and repeat the steps until your word or phrase is complete.
