How to Draw Emo Pics

Emo culture, short for emotional, is characterized by melancholy rock music and dark art. The music and artwork associated with the emo scene is often about heartbreak, sensitivity and teenage-angst. The fashion and overall look are stereotypically thick eyeliner, side-swept bangs, studded belts and wrist bands. Art and fashion are mostly black with highlights of bright colors. The artwork also often has text expressing a feeling of sadness or pain. Most emo pictures are of a sad little boy or girl with big eyes acting out a scene such as getting their heart broken or chasing after an impossible love.

Instructions

  1. Create an Emo Picture

    • 1

Sketch a body for your emo person. Make the body as simple or complex as you want. Some emo pictures are very detailed and anatomically accurate, while others are simply a cylinder with two arms.

    • 2

Draw the head larger than normal, as most emo pictures have larger-than-life heads. Sketch very big eyes, a small nose and small mouth. Add the hair. Whispy layers and bangs are popular in emo hairstyles.

    • 3

Draw the clothes on your figure. Copy the popular emo styles such as skinny jeans, band T-shirts, studded belts and wristbands. Add any other accessories such as a facial piercing, broken heart or tears.

    • 4

Color the picture using watercolors first. Add skin color (usually very pale) and hair color (black or a bright color). Paint light grey or a neon color around the eyes to show dark circles and heavy make up. Color the clothes, shoes and background.

    • 5

Allow the paint to dry then return to the picture with the colored pencils. Outline the eyes in heavy black. Add shading and details with the colored pencils. Write a saying on the picture such as a lyric from an emo song or a poem about love and pain.
