How to Make a Finger Board

Paper finger boards allow skateboarding fanatics to try out a radical new trick even if they can't get outside to bust a move on the nearest half-pipe. Some fingerboards are professionally made, but you can save money and try out that new move more quickly by making your own fingerboard from household office supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 index cards, 3 by 5 inches

  • Small paintbrush
  • Black sandpaper
  • 2 miniature skateboard truck sets

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the shape of a skateboard on three 3-by-5-inch index cards by tracing an area slightly wider than your index finger. Also draw in the holes where the wheel trucks will go at the front and back of each fingerboard shape.

    • 2

Cut out each of the three fingerboard shapes with scissors, then punch out the truck set holes in each shape.

    • 3

Glue all three of the layers together with modeling glue, taking care to line up each pair of truck set holes at the front and rear of the cutouts. Jab a sharp pencil or the end of your scissors through each truck set hole.

    • 4

Bend the front of the fingerboard upward just past the front truck set holes, similar to the front of a full-size skateboard.

    • 5

Paint your fingerboard using modeling paint and a small paintbrush.

    • 6

Cut out a piece of black sandpaper equal in size to your fingerboard, and glue it along the top layer of the fingerboard.

    • 7

Attach the miniature truck sets to the front and back of the fingerboards at the holes you made in Step 2 using modeling glue.
