How to Make Soda Can Noise Makers

Children love to make music with their own instruments. Yours can, too, if you make your own using basic household objects. With several children, you can make a band using various handmade instruments including drums or maracas. Basic noisemakers can be made out of anything from an oatmeal canister to a paper bag filled with beans or rice. You can even use a soda can.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a soda can on a piece of cardboard, and trace the outline. Cut the circle out of cardboard. Trim excess, if necessary, to allow it to fit inside the lip of the soda can.

    • 2

Draw a design or color the top of the cardboard with colored pencils, markers or glitter.

    • 3

Fill the can about one-fourth of the way full with either beans or rice, depending on the type of noise you want the can to make.

    • 4

Glue the cardboard on top of the can. If you need a tighter hold, tape around the outside of the cardboard with masking tape. Wait for the glue to dry completely.

    • 5

Decorate the outside of the can. Paint a design or glue construction paper around the outside, then decorate it with anything from your favorite color to a sports logo.
