Load an audio file containing unwanted background noise, such as static, hiss, buzz or hum, into an empty track in your audio editing software.
Highlight approximately one second of the targeted background noise alone. Be sure this selection does not contain vocals, instruments or any other sounds you intend to preserve.
Copy and paste your background noise selection to a new track. Save the selection as a new file with an easily recognizable name.
Open the noise filter function or plug-in on your audio editing software. You should be able to find it in the menu bar.
Select the "New Filter" or "Custom Filter" option.
Paste or upload your background noise selection into the file window provided in the "New Filter" option. Save the new filter you have created. Use it as needed to remove or filter out the background noise in any audio file.
