How to Make Recycled Magazine & Newspaper Art

Recycling is a growing trend in popular culture. What better way to recycle than to create art out of old magazines and newspapers that would otherwise end up in a landfill? Reuse these media pieces to create a homemade work of art that allows you to exercise your creativity. Give your creation away as a gift, use it as a decoration or work on it with your child as a bonding activity.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a theme for your artwork. For example, opt for images and words that make a social commentary or that feature fashion, food, or noteworthy events occurring in your community.

    • 2

Spread your magazines and newspapers over a flat work surface. Leaf through the pages, and select words or images that represent your theme. Cut these images out.

    • 3

Cut cardboard into an appropriate size for your work of art. For example, to make a collage that is large enough to hang on a wall, opt for a piece of cardboard that measures at least 2 square feet.

    • 4

Arrange the images on the cardboard. Take a picture of the display or memorize where each image is placed and in what order they should be glued down.

    • 5

Spread a thin layer of water-soluble glue on the back of each image or word. Press the pieces onto the cardboard according to your predetermined design.
