How to Make Recycled Art With a Rolled Magazine

Magazines are colorful and are often made from glossy paper, so they are well-suited for use in recycled art because they can add color and texture to your project. You can make an abstract form from a rolled up magazine that can be used in larger art projects. In a project, the magazine can represent a tree, an explosion or many other ideas, depending on how it is added to the creation.

Instructions

  1. Magazine Fountain

    • 1

Cut the top half of the magazine into 1/2-inch wide strips. Make sure that the strips are still connected to the bottom of the magazine.

    • 2

      Roll up the magazine vertically.

    • 3

Secure it by wrapping the rubber band around the bottom of the rolled up magazine.

    • 4

Grab the strips in the middle of the roll and gently pull until the strips in the center of the roll are higher than the strips on the outside of the roll. This will create a fountain of strips.

    Magazine Spirals

    • 5

Cut the entire magazine into 2-inch strips width-wise so that the binding (also known as the spine) of the magazine holds the ends of the strips together.

    • 6

Put glue on one side of the strip.

    • 7

Roll the strips so that the glue is on the inside of the spiral and the bound end of the strips is on the outside of the finished spiral.

    • 8

Secure the spiral with a rubber band until the glue dries. Do this by wrapping the rubber band around the spiral twice.

    • 9

      Remove the rubber band.
