How to Make 3D Art Photos With Scissors

3D art photos add dimension to flat images by separating them into layered sections. They are fun, easy and affordable to create. Additionally, you do not need any special software or skills to create a 3D art photo. This project is suitable for kids and adults. Once completed, frame your artwork and put it on display or give it to a loved one as a gift.

Instructions

    • 1

      Choose a photo for your project that is clear and contains a foreground, middle and background. For example, in an image featuring a couple in front of mountains and the sky, the couple is in the foreground, the mountains form the middle and the sky is the background.

      Create three copies of your photo using a photocopier or printer.

      Cut the foreground out of one of the copies with your scissors. For example, in an image featuring a couple in front of mountains and the sky, cut out the couple.

      Cut the foreground and middle out of one of the copies as a single piece. For example, in an image featuring a couple in front of mountains and the sky, cut out the couple and the mountains.

      Place the uncut copy of the photo on a piece of thick cardboard. Trace around the photo. Cut around the tracing. Glue the photo to the cardboard. This is the back layer.

      Place the image featuring the foreground and middle on a piece of cardboard. Trace around the image. Cut around the tracing. Cut multiple pieces of cardboard and glue them together if you want to create a thicker layer. Trim the top part of the cardboard off, so it is slightly shorter than the image. Glue the image to the cardboard. This is the middle layer.

      Place the image featuring the foreground on a piece of cardboard. Trace around the image. Cut around the tracing. Trim the top part of the cardboard off, so it is slightly shorter than the image. Cut multiple pieces of cardboard and glue them together if you want to create a thicker layer. Glue the image to the cardboard. This is the top layer.

      Glue the middle layer to the back layer. Align their bottom edges. Wait for the glue to dry. Glue the top layer to the middle layer. Align their bottom edges. Wait for the glue to dry.
