How to Make a Slide Show for an Art Portfolio

For artists, a quality portfolio is seen as the premiere measure of their talent. However, it isn't enough to simply throw a few of your best pieces into a black folder and hope for the best; you also must be aware of the presentation. While traditional art portfolios can be heavy and hard to carry, an online slide show allows you the freedom to showcase your work while carrying only a laptop. Uploading your work to the Internet ensures that you will always have relatively easy access to your portfolio, even if you're not carrying it with you.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Transfer your art to a computer with an Internet connection. If your artwork is small enough, scan it using a flatbed scanner. Otherwise, take a photo with a digital camera and upload it to your computer.

    • 2

Size the files using Adobe Photoshop graphics editing program. An ideal size for showcasing your work on the web is 800 pixels wide. Optimize and rotate as needed.

    • 3

Register for an account at online portfolio site such as Carbonmade.com or Portfolio Slideshow Pro. Upload only your best work. This may be the one opportunity another person has to judge your talent.

    • 4

Ensure that all the images are correct and in the right order, then bookmark and make note of the web address of your public portfolio. Write it down.

    • 5

Show your online slide show whenever anyone wants to see your work. Flip through each image individually, taking the time to explain your process as they view the art.
