How to Use Prismacolor Art Stix

Prismacolor Art Stix are colored pencils that look like unwrapped crayons, because they're not encased in wood. But they're squared off, rather than cylindrical. These solid sticks of color have a creamy, soft consistency. Art Stix may be used like colored pencils or even crayons, allowing for thicker strokes to cover a large area quickly and consistently.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw freely with the Art Stix. Hold one in your hand like a pencil, and draw on a piece of paper. Create dots by lightly tapping a corner of the square-shaped tip on the paper. Create larger, darker dots by pressing harder -- with the entire, flat surface of the tip on the paper.

    • 2

Place one of the Art Stix on its side so it's flat. Use the side to shade in a large area. Or place an item like a stencil under a piece of paper, and go over it with the long, flat side -- to create a rubbing or transfer.

    • 3

Create a point with one of the Art Stix, to better resemble a colored pencil. Hold a coloring stick with one hand, and shave off pieces away from you, using a craft knife. Do this until you have created a point.
