How to Use an Art Projector

You can use an art projector to either magnify or reduce the size of an original image when you project it onto another surface. Once the original is projected, you can trace it onto the projection surface, adding as much detail as you need. Most art projectors work the same way, and these general instructions can be applied to all of them. The most significant difference will be in whether your art projector's copy area is located on the top or the bottom of the projector.

Things You'll Need

  • Art projector
  • Light bulb
  • Power source
  • Original image to be magnified
  • Projection surface (paper, wall, canvas, etc.)

Instructions

    • 1

Fit your projector with the appropriate light bulb, according to the manufacturer's directions, and plug it into a power source.

    • 2

Place the original image in the projection's copy area. This is usually an opening located on the bottom of the projector. If the copy area is located at the bottom of the projector, place the projector on top of the image, lined up with the copy area's opening.

    • 3

Aim the projector at the surface on which you wish to view the original image. Turn off or at least dim the room's lights so that you will be able to view the image.

    • 4

Increase or decrease the projection size by moving the projector forward or backward. Moving it forward will increase the size.

    • 5

Focus the image by turning the projector's lens until it is as clear as possible.
