How to Apply Makeup for a Nutcracker Performance

This December thousands of performers will take part in Nutcracker performances across the entire globe. To apply makeup for a Nutcracker performance takes some skill, although probably not as much as it takes to perform the lead role of Clara. With the right tips and tools, you can apply makeup for a Nutcracker performance with less effort than it takes to crack a nut.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down all the makeup products you will need before buying so that you don't miss anything important. You'll need a neutral eye shadow, black eyeliner, black mascara, red lipstick, liquid foundation and powder in a darker shade than you normally use everyday, and a brightly-colored blush.

    • 2

Buy all your makeup first. Lipstick has a 1-year shelf life, and mascara and other eye makeup only lasts about 3 months. Throw away your old products and buy fresh products.

    • 3

Don't forget any makeup at home. Make sure you have all your makeup before you leave home if you'll be applying your makeup backstage.

    • 4

Begin with a clean face. Don't apply any makeup until after washing your face.

    • 5

Avoid using any heavy facial moisturizers after washing your face. Your makeup will seem to disappear if you use a heavy moisturizer.

    • 6

Apply neutral eye shadow to your eyelids and all the way up to your eyebrow line.

    • 7

Put on black eyeliner next. Begin on the top inner corner of your eye and work outward. Extend the black eyeliner beyond the outer eye corner by at least one inch. It looks weird up close, but it'll look great from the audience. Apply eyeliner to bottom eyelid starting at the outer corner and working inward.

    • 8

      Use black mascara next.

    • 9

Blend liquid foundation onto your face, avoiding the eye area. Put a powder layer on top to set foundation in place.

    • 10

Brush on blush to cheeks in an upward motion.

    • 11

Add red lipstick to your lips taking care not to smear it.
