How to Apply Ballerina Stage Makeup

Ballerinas have a detailed makeup routine for every performance, as they dance on a large stage and need to have their faces seen by people in the very back of theaters and auditoriums. Though it may look strange up close, the makeup done by ballet dancers is heavy and dramatic for a reason.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply moisturizer to the skin and let set. This will help keep the skin firm and aid the makeup in staying on the skin instead of smearing off instantly.

    • 2

Apply foundation all over the face. Spread it into the hairline and down the neck. Choose a shade that is slightly darker than your actual skin tone.

    • 3

Smile widely. Dab a large, wide, bristle brush in a red or pink blush. Stroke the arch of the cheekbones to create dramatic cheeks and highlight the natural arch.

    • 4

Cover the eyes with a white or neutral-shade eye shadow. Use a dark eyeshadow to brush across the eye, starting from the middle outward. Leave the inner eye area white. Extend the shadow upward to exaggerate the eye.

    • 5

Glue on false eyelashes with eyelash glue. Let dry for a couple minutes. Draw black eyeliner on over the eyelashes and under the eye.

    • 6

Line lips with a red lip liner. Apply red lipstick.

    • 7

Apply finishing powder to the entire face to set the makeup.
