DIY Tinkerbell

When performing a stage production of J. M. Barrie's "Peter Pan," or any work derived from it, you will likely need to create a visual representation of one of the essential characters of the story, Tinker Bell. Tinker Bell is a fairy who is traditionally depicted as being diminutive in stature compared to the rest of the characters, and so small that she does not communicate directly with the audience. The character is typically portrayed as a point of light floating around the stage, a depiction that is simple to attain with portable light sources.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a laser pointer in a color that contrasts with your backdrops and set decorations. Make sure it is bright enough to be distinguishable with your stage lights.

    • 2

Attach a pattern head of your choosing to the laser pointer to give the point of light more depth than that of a single dot.

    • 3

Turn on the pointer and swing it around the stage in accordance with Tinker Bell's blocking. Shake it gently in your hand to create the appearance of a hovering fairy.

    • 4

Turn off the pointer when Tinker Bell leaves the scene, in the same manner as an exiting actor.
