In the movie Avatar what are humans doing on Pandora?

Humans are on Pandora to mine for a valuable mineral called unobtanium. Unobtainium is a superconductor that is more powerful than any other material known to humanity, and it is found only on Pandora. Humans have set up a mining operation on Pandora in order to extract the unobtanium and bring it back to Earth.
