Measure, mark and cut a piece of 1-inch by 6-inch lumber to 92 inches long. This is the base of your puppet rack.
Measure, mark and cut five pieces of 1-inch by 6-inch lumber to measure 4 inches wide and 20 inches long. These are your puppet stands.
Slide a pencil into the compass. Set the compass to draw a 4-inch circle. Position a puppet stand vertically in front of you. Position the compass so the pencil is along the top, narrow edge of a puppet stand. The point of the compass must be centered along the width of the board. Draw a circle. Repeat this process on all of the puppet stands.
Cut the top of each puppet stand into a tall rounded shape by following the top of the circle outline with the jigsaw. Repeat this process on all of the puppet stands.
Set the miter saw at a 45-degree angle. Position the bottom of a puppet stand into the miter saw so the 1 inch side is vertical. Cut a 45-degree angle along the bottom of each stand that originates from the bottom front corner and removes the bottom back edge. Repeat this process on all of the puppet stands.
Position the base horizontally on a flat surface. Mark 4-inch sections spaced 12 inches apart. The markings should be horizontal and spaced one inch from the bottom edge of the board. You will end up with five sections. This is where your puppet stands will be mounted.
Position a puppet stand along the first 4-inch marking. Align the mitered edge of the puppet stand with the marking so the top, rounded piece of the stand protrudes up from the base. Secure the puppet stand into place using 1 1/2-inch wood screws placed one inch from the bottom and sides of both bottom corners. Repeat this process until all of the puppet stands have been mounted on the base.
Sand the base and puppet stands with sandpaper starting with 60 grit and moving to 100 grit and 220 grit. Sand until all of the wood edges are smooth, which will prevent your puppet from catching and fraying on the rack.
