DIY PVC Single Guitar Stand

Guitar stands enable musicians to keep their instruments nearby without having to keep removing them from their cases. They are extremely useful at performances as they ensure instruments are not left in the way of others and can be kept visible at all times. Although there are many stands available for purchase, a single stand can be created using PVC based on a triangular design in two sections. Clear PVC may be used or colors may be coordinated to fit with pipe fittings or foam to complement the design.
  1. Gather Parts and Tools

    • Purchase some thick PVC pipe, at least one-quarter inch. PVC works well for the stand because it is sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Choose clear PVC or a color, depending on if you wish your stand to have a traditional look (such as black) or a modern appearance (such as clear or brightly colored). Cut the various lengths of pipe to be used in the construction of the guitar stand using a hacksaw.

    Purchase PVC Fittings

    • Purchase PVC fittings that will connect the PVC pieces together and make the stand cohesive. You will need several elbow fittings, T-shaped fittings and a cross-shape fitting. Coordinate the color of these with the original PVC pipe that was purchased. Protect the guitar from getting scratched by using foam for pipe insulation.

    Assemble Part of the Stand

    • Assemble the top of the stand by combining the PVC pieces that have been cut to length with the fittings to stabilize each section. By adding four T-fittings facing in an upward direction on each of the corners, the ends of the stand will look professional and sit evenly on a flat surface.

    Assemble the Base

    • Form the triangular bottom section of the stand by attaching two T fittings to the sides of the PVC tubes you have cut. The triangular base leans back on the floor, tilting the guitar up in a position that is easy to reach. Create the back of the base of the stand, attaching PVC tubes to the short side of the cross fitting. Form the front of the base of the stand by attaching PVC tubes to the longer side of the cross fitting. This ensures the stand will not fall over and the guitar will remain on the stand if it is accidentally bumped.

    Attach Foam

    • Protect the back of the guitar from getting scratched by adding some pieces of foam onto the middle bar of the main section of the stand. This is the part of the stand that will come in contact with your guitar when it is leaning back and can also be color coordinated with the PVC. Fit the top of the stand onto the base and it is ready to use.
