Schedule an audition for the School of American Ballet. For most dancers, progressing through this program at a high level is their best chance to be invited to join the New York City Ballet. Typically, dancers must be between the ages of 6 and 18 to audition for the school.
Research the necessary steps needed to audition for admittance to SAB. Be aware that admission to the school will require a virtually total commitment to the profession.
Complete your audition and wait for your results. As the New York City Ballet does not hold open auditions for dancers, your only chance for dancing in the company will likely be acceptance into SAB. Competition for a place is extremely competitive. If you have not studied and excelled at ballet since childhood, your chances for acceptance are slim.
