Can you tell us a bit about yourself and where you're from?
I'm Bruno, and I'm nine years old. I was born in Berlin, Germany, and I live in a big house with my parents, my sister Gretel, and lots of servants.
What are some of your favorite things to do?
I love playing with my friends, exploring my surroundings, and reading adventure stories. I'm also learning to play the piano, which I quite enjoy.
What are some challenges you've faced recently?
Moving to a new house has been a bit difficult, especially since I left behind all my friends in Berlin. I also don't understand why we had to move here, and why we can't go certain places or talk to certain people.
Gretel:
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your interests?
I'm Gretel, and I'm twelve years old. Like my brother Bruno, I was born in Berlin and have recently moved to this new place. I'm passionate about sports and love to stay active. I'm also interested in learning about the world and different cultures.
How have you adjusted to the move?
Initially, I found it hard to leave my old friends and school, but I'm slowly starting to get used to our new home. I miss Berlin, but I'm trying to make the best of it.
What do you think about Bruno's friendship with Shmuel?
While I don't fully understand why Bruno is so drawn to Shmuel, I can see that their friendship means a lot to him. I'm a bit worried that it might not be safe, but I trust my parents to keep us safe.
Shmuel:
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and where you're from?
My name is Shmuel, and I'm a Jewish boy who lives on the other side of the fence. I'm ten years old, and I don't have a last name or know my date of birth.
What are some of your daily activities?
I spend most of my time doing work around the camp, like clearing debris or moving things. I also try to stay hidden as much as possible, as it's dangerous for me to be seen by the soldiers.
How did you meet Bruno, and what do you think about your friendship?
I met Bruno when he came to the fence and started talking to me. At first, I was scared, but he seemed kind, so I started talking back. He's the first friend I've had in a long time, and I cherish our friendship.
