What is Kent to King Lear?

Earl of Kent is a loyal and faithful follower of King Lear. He speaks his mind freely, even when it means disagreeing with the king. Following his banishment from the kingdom on the orders of the king, he remains loyal to his master and disguises himself as a peasant in order to stay close to him and offer protection until his fortunes change. Kent acts as a loyal confidant and protector to Lear, despite the king's poor treatment of him.
