What are the types of humor?

Here are some different types of humor:

* Pun: A play on words that is often humorous because of its unexpected nature. E.g. "*My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We’ll see about that.*"

* Irony: A statement or situation where the meaning is different from what is expected. E.g. "*The only time my wife and I agree is when we’re apart.*"

* Sarcasm: A sharp or bitter remark that is often used to mock someone or something. E.g. "*I love how my husband looks at me with such adoration... when I’m bringing him a beer.*"

* Satire: A genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself into improvement. Although satire is usually meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon. E.g. "*Whenever I fill out an application form asking for 'three references', I always put down God, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.*"

* Black humor: A type of humor that deals with dark and taboo subjects, often in a humorous or satirical way. E.g. "*I told my wife she was drawing her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised.*"

* Wit: The ability to think and speak quickly and cleverly, often in a humorous way. E.g. "*I went to buy some camo pants but couldn’t find any.*"

* Parody: A work that imitates or ridicules another work of art, literature, or music. E.g. "*What do you call a belt made of watches? A waist of time.*"
