• The Laugh Riot at the Hyatt is approximately 19 miles from Laurel, at the Bethesda, Maryland, Hyatt Regency. This live weekly standup comedy show is produced by StandUpComedyToGo every Saturday from 8 until 10 p.m.

  Laugh Riot at the Hyatt transforms one of the hotel's private function rooms into a raucous comedy club that features take-out food service and a full bar. The show showcases three local comics, such as Brian Parise, Andrea Fuller and Bright New Faces.

  After the show has ended, audience members are invited to participate in the "Everyone's a Comedian" contest; the contestant who tells the funniest joke wins a $25 prize, T-shirt and two tickets to another show.

DC Improv Comedy Club

• The DC Improv Comedy Club, 21 miles from Laurel, in Washington, D.C., is a renowned comedy club that opened its doors in 1992 and has showcased talented comedians such as Brian Regan, Carlos Mencia, Tom Green, Ellen DeGeneres, Tommy Davidson, Loni Love, Dave Chappelle and Jamie Kennedy.

  The club's restaurant serves a variety of appetizers, salads, tacos, burritos, sandwiches and desserts, in addition to an extensive selection of wine and beer. The club is for guests 18 and older and requires that each person purchases a minimum of two items.

  The club is closed Monday, but features nightly shows six days a week at 8 p.m. There is also a 10:30 p.m. show Fridays and Saturdays.

Magooby's Joke House

• Magooby's Joke House is approximately 22 miles south of Laurel in Baltimore, Maryland. The comedy club features nationally headlining comedians each week, attracting performances from comedians who have appeared on Comedy Central, television sitcoms, The Tonight Show and the David Letterman Show.

  The club is open to visitors ages 18 and older; however, children aged 16 to 17 may be admitted if accompanied by a parent of guardian.

  There is a full-service restaurant upstairs; the club serves a light menu during shows and features a full bar and free parking.

  Doors open 45 minutes before shows begin and there is a two-item minimum purchase.
