How to Identify Song Titles

Hearing a great new song without knowing the song title can be frustrating. You may try humming it for your friends and family, but no one can help you. You listen to the same radio station for days and still nothing. You just can't get this song out of your head! Luckily, there are some tech-savvy people out there who feel your pain and have created several options to help you name that song.

Instructions

Remember key lyrics in the song and search by typing the phrase followed by the word "lyrics." Inquiries on search engines usually bring back song titles with lyric searches. Websites such as Lyrster and Zworks are designed specifically for matching lyrics with song titles. Listen for unique phrases that can't be easily mistaken for another song. Phrases like "baby, I love you" may not retrieve successful results.

Download song-identification software to your computer. If you have a microphone attached or installed on your computer, programs like Midomi allow you to sing a song to search for the song title. This is especially helpful for songs with lots of oohs and aahs. Mashable writer Amy-Mae Elliot also states that the program works for humming -- in case you can't quite remember the lyrics. Other programs, like Tutanic let you play an audio bite of mystery songs for your computer to find the song title. Many of these programs are free.

Download song-identification software such as Shazam or MusicID to your phone. When you hear the mystery song, hold your phone up to the music and get the song title in seconds. These applications are not limited to smart phones and are usually less than $5.00 a month. Some phones already have music identification programs installed. Check your service provider's website or your phone's catalog for an application that works for you.
