How to Find a Song Knowing Just a Few Lines of It

Popular radio stations constantly introduce songs to their rotation, and you never know when or where you may discover a new song that moves or inspires you. If you know just a few lines of the song, or even just a single line in some cases, you can usually do a bit of sleuthing to find the title of the song, thanks to the wonders of the Internet. While you may still have difficulty if the song is especially rare or obscure, in most cases, you should find what you are looking for in very little time.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your favorite search engine. Popular examples include AltaVista, Bing, Google and Yahoo!

    • 2

Insert as many lyrics as you can into the "Search" field at the top of the page. For example, if you wanted to find out the title of a particular Beatles song using only a few lyrics, you might enter the words "Please say to me you'll let me be your man and please say to me you'll let me hold your hand."

    • 3

Add quotation marks to the beginning and end of your search query for a more precise search, if you are certain that you have the exact lyrics in order. By using quotes, the search engine will automatically look for your exact words in their exact order, pinpointing only the most accurate search results. If you have only a vague idea of the lyrics, however, do not use quotation marks.

    • 4

Click the "Search" button. The first few search results should contain listings from lyrics websites, assuming that the song is not too obscure. Click the most relevant search results to see the complete lyrics as well as artist and title information.
