How to Create a Spiral-Bound Songbook

For an artist, there is something especially thrilling about seeing a finished version of their work in a tangible and professionally assembled form. Whether it is the anthology of poetry to the poet; the sculpture to the sculptor, or the finally printed novel to the writer, artists tend to feel an enormous feeling of elation and pride when their vision is realized. This is also true for the song writer. And whether you'd a hobbyist who would like a keepsake of your last fifteen songs; or a music director at a church looking to make a bulk order of spiral-bound songbooks, you will find the process is straightforward and relatively easy.

Instructions

    • 1
      Create the songbook digitally first.

Use desktop publishing software such as Adobe Indesign, QuarkExpress, or Scribus to digitally create the sheet music and song lyrics that will comprise your songbook. Ensure you include details like song titles, copyright notices where applicable, and other design elements that improve the aesthetics of your songbook.

    • 2
Print it at home or using a printing service.

You have two choices for printing the completed songbook from its digital file. The first is to print it at home; this is a particularly attractive solution when you have access to a color printer that can print duplex or double-sided sheets. Alternately, you can bring the digital file to a print shop like FedEx Office and have it printed on double-sided, full-color sheets there.

Bind your songbook with a spiral binding. Regardless of whether you printed your songbook at home or in a print shop, you can pay to have your songbook spiral-bound in FedEx Office. Alternatively, you can buy a binder like the relatively inexpensive models made by the General Binding Corporation, and bind the songbook at home.
