How to Create Giclee Cards

Unless you have a giclee printer at home, and not many people do, you'll need to find a print shop that makes giclee prints in order to make giclee cards. Giclee is a six-, eight- or 12-color digital print process. It's similar to lithographic printing, but the colors are truer and more vibrant according to the Nova Space Art gallery. You can order giclee prints on almost any media including card stock or watercolor paper for card making. You can also print to acetate or vinyl and mount giclee prints on pre-folded blank cards for more original card designs.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you want to print directly to card stock or whether you want to mount giclee prints on other media onto pre-folded cards.

    • 2

Select an image or images for your giclee cards and save them at the highest resolution possible. If you're working from film negatives you'll need to scan them or have your print shop scan them.

    • 3

Choose your print medium. A true giclee pigment print, according to TeraJet and Giclee Print Net, is an image printed on natural fiber paper or canvas. You can also opt for any type of coated paper your printer offers.

    • 4

Send your digital image to your giclee printer in whatever format they prefer. Request print sizes that can either be folded into cards or mounted on blank cards.

    • 5

Ask for a test print before you run your entire order to make sure the colors are correct.

    • 6

Mount your giclee prints to pre-folded card stock or fold your prints into cards.
