Each audio track in Pro Tools has a drop-down box showing the available plug-ins. Once you've selected the best take of your vocal, you can select Elastic Audio from the drop-down menu to enable this feature. The sound input to select for vocals is monophonic. Once the monophonic algorithm is selected, you can adjust the timing of the vocal track to assure that it lines up with the rest of the song.
Before you can begin lining up your vocal track, you need to create regions, which is known as "chopping." When you chop a vocal track, you are isolating the audio sections and removing the remainder. This technique makes it easier to line things up properly. In visual mode, you will need to select and delete the empty spaces so that what you are left with are the words from the vocal track.
The Elastic Audio plug-in contains a variety of tools designed to help you time-adjust your tracks. The tool used to line up vocals is called the TCE Trimmer. Once your vocals are chopped, you can select the TCE Trimmer tool from the Elastic Audio tool bar to begin adjusting the timing of the audio track.
Elastic Audio allows you to line up your vocal without affecting the pitch. In other programs, stretching or contracting the vocal causes noticeable pitch changes. Once TCE Trimmer is selected, you can begin dragging the margins of the vocal parts to the appropriate regions so that they are now in time with the rest of the song. For example, if the beginning of the vocal starts a little late, drag it to the appropriate margin. Your vocal track will be in aliment after you've adjusted each audio clip.
