Insert the DVD for Nuendo into the computer and run the setup program. After it is installed, install the audio card/device if it is not already, then launch Nuendo.
Create a new project by clicking File, then New Project. Choose Empty from the templates menu and then select a location for the Project Folder that Nuendo will create on your hard drive. Click Create. A new project is created. Now configure the audio card from the VST Connections menu in Nuendo to recognize the audio inputs you want to record.
Turn on the metronome in the transport window and set the proper tempo for the song by clicking Activate Click, then setting the tempo in beats per minute in the field right below. Add a new track to the recording from the Audio menu of the program. Try to plan this out; for instance, track 1 can be rhythm guitar, track 2 lead guitar, track 3 bass, tracks 4-8 drums and track 9 can be vocals.
After adding the track, assign it to the input from your audio card for the instrument that you want to record by clicking the Input tab and then clicking Device Port. Set your levels by first clicking Monitor, then clicking Record enable in the window for that track; this makes the track live so you can hear sound in it. Play a chord or note on the instrument and set levels so the audio is not peaking, then record the audio by clicking Record in the Transport Window. Repeat this procedure for each additional track/instrument you want to record.
Open the mixing console. The mixing console in Nuendo can be used to record, edit and mix mono, stereo and multichannel audio. The console works much like a physical audio console, and has functions such as Solo, Faders, Panning and Arm for Recording. The mixing console can also be set up with audio send/returns, EQs and phase inversion. Nuendo can also be configured to work with an external mixing console. Use the mixing console to adjust levels on all the tracks you have recorded and create a stereo mix. For instance, you might want the lead guitar higher in the mix when it is playing solo and lower during the main part of songs. At other times, maybe the bass should be more present. Use the pans to create a stereo image by panning instruments to the left or right. The Kick drum and vocals should always be panned to the middle. After that, use your own creativity to place the instruments to the left or right.
Nuendo is a very powerful program, and it comes with a full set of manuals detailing how to use the individual effects and EQs that are built into it. In addition, there is an active support forum where users can tap knowledge from other users.
